my ds 2.7 had many threads regarding speech delay

he shows signs of wanting to be out of nappies we did potty train when he was 2.3 and left no pants or trousers and would happily take himself

wheather is obviously cold so doesnt want to be left with nothing on but cannot take trousers down to get on potty

also doesnt tell me if and when he wants to go

jsut wandering if anyone found a solution or waited untill able to tell you

he will be 3 in april so i know nursery may want him out of nappies or maybe they may be understanding due to speech delay

just wanted advise please should i wait or how did you do it if you were successful

thank you in advance my comp keeps shutting down so i'm not being rude if i dont respond straight away x

My son has severe speech delay and asd.Have you thought of using the symbols for toileting?
We had a symbol for the toilet ( or you could use potty obviously ) which I kept available to him all the time. When I sat him on the toilet i showed him the symbol and said " tiolet" . We also had symbols stuck on the wall next to the toilet showing the sequence. I know it sounds silly but kids with processing issues can sometimes need to be reminded of the order of things to get used to it.
It didn't take very long before he would point to or hand me the symbol for toilet and i would help him. He toilet trainned in just a few days actually ( although it was the second time) .
AS he was such a visual learner I also got his brother and his dad to take him with them to the loo as often as possible. I think watching what boys did helped him as well.
AS for clothing I just did baggy track suit bottome until he got the hang and had a bit more time to cope with buttons and trousers that needed a hefty pull down. I then burnt them
