Our DD's are 10 & 8.
I have never know two children as messy as these two!
I have always asked them from a young age to tidy away & always throw their rubbish in the bin.
6 months ago this all changed.
They take their clothes off & leave them where they take them off.
Wrappers & rubbish, left or stuffed down the sofa cushions?!
I have taken things away for a long period of time but didn't make any difference..
Any ideas on how I can fix this please?!
Please be kind, I suffer with my mental health so if you don't have nice advise please keep it to yourself x

What kind of consequences do you use OP?

For example, what kinds of wrappers are stuffed behind sofa cushions......if snacks, why are they still permitted to have them somewhere other than at the table with immediate clean up? Or don't buy wrapped snacks - chop up veggies or fruit and if they ask for their fave snacks explain why they're not available anymore.

What kind of things do they leave out? Any toys, devices that are left out should then be removed.

Probably less incentive regarding clothes, but maybe a sticker chart could help there? They could also be doing small chores for the sticker chart.

What happened 6 months ago?

@Batbatbatty
In the last 6 months I have started a new job & my husband has also started a new role within his employment.

So we tend to take away their TV's, iPads & toys that they enjoy playing with.

With regard to wrappers that are stuffed behind sofa cushions & down the sides of the sofa, its crisp packets, wrappers from biscuit bars & general snack items.

Previously I have made them sit at the table to have these, but since starting my new job I felt guilty that I wasn't able to spend that time with them after school so they tend to chill out until I finish work (as I work from home) then we do homework & reading.

They bring toys down from their bedrooms & don't take them back upstairs with them. I have seen a good idea on Pinterest 'Toy Jail' so they can see the items that have been taken away & they need to earn getting them back!

I thought of a sticker chart but I'm not sure if they are too old for that kind of thing now but I guess its worth a go or maybe like a clipboard that they tick it off daily once they have done it?!

It's hard cause I feel guilty for getting this new job & it being so consuming but also at their age I thought they would have had more respect for their home & us than what they do...?
