Sleep :(

Baby won’t sleep longer than two hours and I don’t know why? It’s got shorter as time has gone on. Used to be three hours chunks and now ten weeks it’s down to two hour chunks and sometimes less. Formula fed. I’m so miserable.

Poor you, it's insanely hard. Do you have a partner or someone who can take the baby for a stretch while you sleep?

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, it's just what babies do. Doesn't make it easy though!

@Squamata totally alone, had IVF as a single person. I just don’t understand why she won’t sleep beyond 2 hours, she sleeps frequently but not long

Hugs it’s really hard. My first didn’t sleep for longer than 45minute stretches for months. I thought I would die from sleep deprivation. unfortunately there isn’t always a reason, some babies just don’t sleep well.

No family or friends who could help out? Could you afford paid help? You do get night nannies who help overnight.

Have you tried white noise? Helped with mine.

This article explains a bit about baby sleep www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2016/oct/26/why-dont-babies-sleep-at-night

If you're too tired to read, the gist is:
Babies are learning and developing incredibly fast, in the first few months their main needs are calories/nutrients and sleep to support then consolidate all the brain development

Feeding is hard work for a tiny baby and makes them tired - they feed, sleep to recover from the effort, wake to feed again

In the womb babies have no clear idea of day and night and it takes some time (3 months at least) for them to have an idea of this

You can help them adjust to day and night changes by making it darker and quieter at night, going out in the day

You could try talking to your health visitor if you're really struggling?

Are you swaddling? X

This is just what babies do. It was a shock to me too, I assumed their sleep got better over time but they go through peaks and troughs for a very long time.

Safe co-sleeping has worked for us. Never planned to do it but it's what's getting everyone the most amount of sleep.
