Had 6 week hv check today and the hv thinks DD may have reflux. Shes said the GP would provide gaviscon but it comes with side effects and is a pain to administer (DD is EBF) so while I'm glad to get an explanation for DDs unsettled behaviour and slow weight gain, I'm apprehensive about the treatment!
Looking to see whether others agree or whether its just standard newborn behaviour/something else.
Also interested to hear any others experiences with gaviscon when baby is EBF!
Summary of symptoms/relevant info:
Tongue tie snipped at 4 weeks following very slow weight gain after initial weight loss
Sick after feeds no matter how long she is held upright for - doesnt always get upset by this though
Slow weight gain in general (was 7lb 14oz at birth, now 8lb 11oz at 6.5 weeks)
Unsettled during the day when awake - cries a lot
Gulps/swallows (as if she is being sick but then swallowing it) and then cries
Feeds well most of the time - i.e. doesnt cry when being fed and will fall asleep on the boob a lot
Plenty of wet and dirty nappies
Wont be put down flat when asleep - thrashes arms and legs around (swaddle doesnt seem to help) and wakes up crying
Doesnt like lying flat when awake - will tolerate for 5 mins but then is generally sick and will cry
Struggles with wind - cries before pooping/passing gas
Doesnt sleep in her crib and also can't co sleep as she will only sleep upright on my chest - as soon as shes put on a flat surface or in the bed next to me, she thrashes around, throws up and wakes up crying.
Has some periods of being awake and happy, generally half an hour to an hour in the mornings is when she is most settled.
Will sleep in her pram if moving (despite this being laid flat, she will be sick but this doesnt always bother her)
Thoughts?? I think HV was keen to get it sorted and something prescribed because I told her I wasn't really sleeping. Obviously I want DD to be happier but want the treatment to be the right one.
Thank you in advance!
