11 week old baby sleeping A LOT… normal?

First time posting! Hope someone has had a sleepy baby and can help ….

I have a toddler who was not like this at all as baby so hence posting for opinion! My 11 week old second child is still sleeping what feels like all the time. Like babies do in very newborn phase! She will even sometimes still sleep through feeds during the day and so I have to wake her up. She has some days of being more alert than others and when she is alert (most evenings) she is smiley etc. so I am not worried about her development in that sense. She is not much of a crier either. She does wake in the night for a feed so I know she is capable of letting me know she’s hungry, especially as she also tends to stockpile milk feeds in the evening! Have I just got an angelic baby or is something wrong? When will she start being more alert during the day?!

11 weeks isn’t that old, mine only started sleeping less at around five months. It sounds like she’s just happy? Have you asked your HV?

😬 I’m guessing your first was like my DS as a newborn and thought sleep was for the weak and crying was for the strong from a few hours old 😂 A lot of my friends babies didn’t come out of the sleepy newborn phase until we’ll past 12 weeks. One regularly couldn’t make it through a 45 minute baby groups until at least 6 months. It sounds like you are otherwise not concerned about her weight gain and development, so I’d personally just continue monitoring +/- enjoying it at the moment.

@anotherscroller planning on asking HV this week! Thank you though that’s reassuring

@VivaVivaa haha! My first was very alert and definitely let me know when he was hungry!! As much as I’m not concerned about her development, at the moment it is hard to get her doing tummy time and having good chunks of time to interact as she is asleep so often 🤦🏻‍♀️ so I am hoping she gets more alert soon!

@Elrm has she woke up more yet? My 11 week old is the same!!

Elrm · 22/04/2024 19:20

@Kirstylvsya she’s 18 months old now but yes she did! I can’t remember how long it took and she still loves her sleep now and is a great sleeper. It won’t be long until yours is more alert during the day so try to enjoy the slower days while you can ☺️
