I've got chest infection

I'm asthmatic and prone to chest infections after viruses. Kids have had cough for weeks so I'm knackered and I've just picked up a bug which has turned into a chest infection. Doc says rest so I'm in and out of bed and DH has taken them out for the day today thankfully. They are 7 and 8.

I feel guilty for going to bed all day today but I think it's the only way to start shifting it. If I keep trying to do childcare or housework, it'll set me back. Why do I feel guilty?

Lurgies 😩

Any tips from families who are prone to chest illnesses? We do:

Inhalers (prescribed)
Multivitamins
Sambucol
Probiotics
Fresh air
Fruit and veg
Handwashing

Why are you in bed, are you just knackered with fighting with the infection or are you struggling to manage your asthma and staying in bed? Are you on antibiotics or has the doctor just told you to rest? If it's the latter did you have a sputum sample to see if antibiotics could help?

The only chest infection that I've had which meant I couldn't get out of bed was when I had pneumonia - usually it's better to be pottering around and coughing up the fluid. Which in no means makes me think that your DH shouldn't take the kids out or you should dive into housework.

Plenty of fluids. Get well soon

And have a long bath, the steam can make you more comfortable too.

Hot bath calling me.

Doc said stats fine so no antibiotics but as I have asthma, I need to rest for 5 days.

I've been doing small tasks like washing up, cooking and changing beds which wipes me out for a while so I need to lie down as chest feels heavy. Am on year round steroid inhaler and blue when needed.

Had a nasty night Boxing Day being sick with all the coughing and was coughing up blood (docs said one instance ok) so think just a bit done in. Have had some hot blackcurrant which has stopped the coughing.

She took a throat swab for flu and Covid but due to bank holiday, results not back until next week. I did a home Covid test and negative.
