Not too sure what's normal.

My first was breast fed.
My 1 week old is formula fed.
He poops regular enough, and the colour of the poop is fine. Its more the consistency. Its clay like and harder than what I think it should be, he does manage to poop it out but its a huge job, he cries and squirms, sometimes I have to help him by holding his legs up.
I called my maternity unit and they said its completely normal and its their system getting used to it and it should get better in time.
Is this correct? Anyone else experience this.
He isn't dehydrated. Has plenty of wet nappies.
Just hate seeing him so uncomfortable.

It does should like he's just getting used to pooing. BF babies usually poo much easier so it's likely the difference that you've noticed.

Congratulations on your new LO Flowers

So I shouldn't be concerned that his poop is somewhat hard? I can pick it up and squish it like playdough.

Yes it sounds like normal poo. As long as its not dry and hard then they aren't constipated.

How do you know what's considered hard? Think that's what I'm struggling with. Because I think its quite hard now. Is it more of a cant squish it at all kind of hard that I should be concerned about?

Formula poo is harder. Which formula are you using and how are you making it up?

Mumamoo, making it exactly how the tin suggests.
