Pillow and quilt for toddler? When!

My son is 1 in a few days! He’s always been a bit of a up and down sleeper. Doesn’t sleep through but has slept better since we started co sleeping a few months ago.

I never leave his sleeping bag on , I put the quilt very low on him (I don’t sleep heavily so constantly check him) and I notice he’s slept better as he kicks his feet out and moves a LOT.

part of me thinks he prefers a quilt and feels restricted in the sleeping bag (when he was in his cot he would be in a sleeping bag, and keep waking)

weve even done supervised naps where he’s had a blanket over him and he’s napped amazing!

So when can I introduce a baby quilt? We want to next year get him in his bed a bit more as I’m not sleeping well but I think he’d sleep better with a little baby quilt. But want to know what age can they be left with it?

I think guidance is that from 12 months is fine, as they have enough motor control to pull it off their faces if it covers them. Same rationale that they can have a comforter etc in the cot with them from that age as well. If you think it might suit him it would seem sensible to try it. That said, our 16 month old definitely wouldn't be able to get blankets back on herself yet. Might be worth holding out until it gets a bit warmer?!

OP have you considered those sleeping bag suits? I think Grobag do them, called Grosuits?? Not sure, but they're basically a sleeping bag material but with arms and legs. Wriggle-friendly!!!

I took the sides off the cotbed (on its lowest setting the mattress was barely off the floor), introduced a very thin pillow, and fitted a single duvet sideways and tucked under the mattress to stop DC rolling out when they were 16mo and 14mo. Like your DC, my eldest slept much better when she was no longer restricted in a Grobag and able to adjust the covers a little if she was hot/cold.

when dc moved into toddler beds around 15months old (they were climbers and able to get out of their cot that age).

Forgot to add, my DCs are 6 and 8yo now, but the recommendation then for pillows and duvets was not before 12mo.

Jojo manan bebe do a snuggle suit which is. 2.5 tog sleep suit with legs. My DD (and her brother before then) sleep much much better in them as they can move around and you don't have to worry about them losing their heads under a duvet. I moved my son to a toddler bed about 2.5yr and that's when I gave him a duvet
