My little girl has had a stuffy nose when waking up the last couple days, a cough started yesterday and she's woke up today really congested in her nose and coughing. This is her 3rd cold in the space of 3 months. She can't catch a break. It's like she's better for 2 weeks or so and then the cold strikes again. I try to keep her away from older children with colds and snotty noses, but I can't keep her wrapped away when all her cousins are older.

I just feel dreadful that she's poorly again and it's her first Christmas. I'm starting to think am I doing something wrong? Is having this many colds basically back to back normal? I know everyone is coming down with something lately

It's completely normal and it will be like the this for quite a few years - even worse
In the nursery years.

Don't worry about Xmas as she won't have a clue.

@MajorCarolDanvers I've heard some horror stores about the nursery sickness🫣

Such is life with the little germ gremlins. My
boy seemed to do the same backalong, one thing after another. It is miserable tho, and you so hate to see them poorly.

Tbh she's done well to have a two week break! 🫣 Most of the time a snotty nose and a cough doesn't actually bother them too much. And bonus cuddles 🥰

Thank you ladies, you've made me feel better😂 When she was coughing this morning I just knew round 3 was here. Her first cold she was totally traumatised every time she coughed, she has become a pro now. All be it still a grump with it, but aren't we all

Kids apparently have on average 8 colds a year, so with only 3 you've done pretty well! Welcome to being a parent!

I'd have thought if she's like this now then nursery is likely to be a bit easier. Mine had zero illnesses for the first 10 months (due to covid), then caught a cold at her 1st soft play session and started nursery soon after and got bug after bug for about 6 months.

Mindystryder · 23/12/2022 19:40

Yep this is just your life now. My second got his first cold at 6 weeks old after his older brother brought it home from nursery. My second is 3yo now and he's pretty much had a cold ever since...except during summer when he gets hay fever. The joys!

My ds has just got another today too. He's 7 months old and this will be his 5th cold I think. It is awful seeing them ill 😥

So sorry to say I learnt quickly that this is the snotgoblin life. My poor DD who's 15 months has been sick with one thing after another since September. It never ends! She is at nursery mind. I think around this age they start wanting to do more things which inevitably leads to contact with the outside world a bit more. And right now, in the middle of winter with every cold going running rampant, it's inevitable!

You're not doing anything wrong at all. They're rubbish and we feel so bad for the poor little things, but they've got an immune system to build and a little life to live and learn.

It's especially rubbish over Xmas etc. My little one was poorly on her birthday and I was so set on her having a lovely Christmas instead. And here we are - she's cutting 4 molars and getting over scarlet fever and I've got covid and strep.

Postponing Christmas until New year with some vague hope of a gap in illness!! Hope your little one recovers soon and you enjoy your wonderful first Christmas together. X

I've noticed today she's also cutting her 4th tooth. So I discovered on Monday she had cut her first tooth at the top. She has her 2 bottom ones and now the tops are coming through, monday was the 3rd tooth and today I was putting teething stuff on it and the one next to it is so so close to popping through. So poor love has her 3rd and 4th tooth coming through and a cold. She's not been to bad in herself today, eating and drinking. So fingers crossed she stays like this for Christmas Day🤞🏼
