Toddler eating advice needed

We are having a few issues regarding my 2 year old's eating at home (he eats well at childcare 3 days a week - good behaviour and eats well). He is 3 next Spring.

He is often silly at mealtimes - purposefully dropping cutlery, putting large amounts purposefully on his fork which inevitably then fall out everywhere. Laughing/joking/trying to make it a game etc. which is his general playful personality. Seems like attention seeking - seems to happen whether we are sat down with him or not. Some meals we will eat with him some we won't due to work schedules/childcare etc. Obviously we model good table manners when we eat with him.

Should we just be ignoring this behaviour/calmly take his plate away/something else?
He gets a lot of time and attention from us generally - he is an only child at the moment. Any advice welcome.
