Separation anxiety or something more?

Hi all, hoping someone can reassure me. I'm a FTM to a lovely 7 month old ds.
For the past couple of months he's been very upset whenever relatives he doesn't see as often come to the house. He'll start screaming as soon as he sees them.

My mum comes over twice a week though and he's always been fine with her so today dh and I went to the shops for the Xmas Dinner shop, we were gone about 40 mins and my mum said he was fine till about 10 mins before we got home. Then he started screaming until we got back and she couldnt calm him down, she thought he was saying mama, and he was trembling a lot too, which he's done before when he sees some people.

Just wanted to know if this sounds like normal separation anxiety. I always worry when he's like that because he seems so scared and he's such a lovely boy, just want him to feel happy and safe.

Didn't want to read and run so hopefully this bumps it for you. Not much to offer I'm afraid as I've never really had separation anxiety with DS, he has moments he a little clingy to one person so maybe that's it a bit?

Anyway with your DS crying due to relatives visiting, it could just be the sudden onset of noise maybe, change in routine, and a lot more people about and so he feels overwhelmed by it? And with the situation with your mum, maybe he was fine with her because he sees her regularly (which is a good thing) but then realised after a while you were gone, therefore yes probably separation anxiety from what I've heard of other people.

@Lottie917 thank you for your reply. I thought the same when I left him with my mum.

It could be that he gets overwhelmed, he's used to a quiet house living with just me and dh, so whenever relatives visit or we go to their house it is always a bit noisier, and people are excited to see him haha.
