When to go back after mat leave ?

Can someone help - I went off on mat leave in June. I took all my annual leave in June and stated mat leave 20th July when bubs was born.

I would love to take the year but finances may make me go back at 9 months

When would this be ? Is there some calculation that I can work this out? As my manager is asking and they don't seem to know. It's a small company and no HR. They outsource payrol and HR when they need to so it's not something they can tell me - they are asking me so I want to make sure I get it right.

They are really flexible though and no pressure - they are just asking if I'd like some kit days in Jan and we can sort reduced hours and flexibility so I think that's a good idea

I'd just like to be prepared

Also if I didn't return do I need to pay back the pay?

I'm on statutory maternity pay

If your first day of Mat Leave was 20 July, and you are only taking the stat paid portion, that's 39 weeks. So you will go back 12 April if my sums are correct.

When does your annual leave year run from/to?

Sorry just saw your other question, if you only got Stat Mat Pay, no top ups over the basic govt rate, then you don't pay anything back.

You usually need to give work 8 weeks notice of your date of return if its not 12months.

It runs from Jan-Dec and I took all my leave for this year in June x

Depending on how your holidays work out you may have bank holidays you can take. If these are already included in your allowance then obviously not but otherwise they can be added so from July to April thats 6 bank holidays (queens funeral is an additional one). You will also have next years holiday allowance which you can look at taking a portion so that you "return to work" earlier but actually tour on annual leave.

Check how much accrued holiday you've got. You can either tag it onto the end of your mat leave or use it to do short weeks. I worked 3 days a week and took 2 as holiday for a while until the holiday ran out. It's easier than going straight to full time.

Be aware that you have a right to unpaid parental leave, I think is 2 weeks a yr? Not sure

If you take the full year, your last day of Mat Leave would be 19th July 2023.

You then return with all leave accrued from 1 jan23 to 19jul23 too.

Thank you, this is what I needed confirming
I'll think il do this.

I am already part time 22.5 hrs over 4 days and they've already said I can reduce to 2 or 3 days with reduced hours so I think I can manage that as my childcare is grandparents so I think it's a big change and a big ask

I'm hoping 2 days in the office and one at home

I'll send an email purely to say I'm planning a year as I feel that's only fair

They've taken on a mat cover for me so although legally I may not have to I'll feel better saying it will be a year

Finically not great but I'm sure we will cope
Especially with being able to use my leave

But I'll need to save some leave from when I return In July to use the latter part of the year
