7 week old rejecting bottles! Help! Reflux? CMPA? Something else?

Looking for help! Feeling at my wits end and pretty down :-(

Baby boy is 7 weeks old and we have always struggled with feeding but it has really peaked this week. He is formula fed on Hipp Organic.

His original symptoms were crying, arching his back, spitting up, sometimes vomiting full bottles and generally seeming extremely uncomfortable day and night (including during sleep). He also would occasionally reject bottles (which got a lot worse).

We spoke to the Dr who suspected reflux and we tried the Hipp anti-reflux milk with carob.

He fed brilliantly for two weeks, however, his nappies were explosive and up to 8 times a day! After two weeks had passed he was weighed and had only gained 2lbs!? Which we put down to loosing all his nutrients through the chronic diarrhoea the milk caused. He also started to reject bottles and became very fussy so we stopped the reflux milk.

Back on Hipp Organic regular milk and things were fine for another 2 weeks. To be honest, I couldn’t fill him and he managed to catch up in weight rather quickly drinking around 1000mls per day.

However, over the last 3 days he has started to reject bottles again. Every feed is a total nightmare! He screams if I put the teat near his mouth. If he does take a few gulps his stomach gurgles and then he pulls away and cries and won’t accept any more.

He’s taking roughly 600-700mls per day and is 12lb. So it’s not enough :-(

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have any experience of this?

  • We have tried different bottles/teats.
  • We have an appointment with a tongue tie specialist next week.
  • We have been given Omeprazole but have not started this yet.
  • We tried gaviscon and it constipated him greatly with no other improvements.
  • He has plenty of wet nappies. Struggles with dirty nappies. Seems to be in a current pattern of 1 big one each day - soft and ‘normal’.

xxx
