Looking after a 6month old when ill

I’m really poorly with flu at the moment, and it’s been really hard taking care of dc. I have no other help than my husband but he works very long hours and on weekends so I’m left to it, he can’t take time off.

I’ve tried to force myself out for a short walk with baby in the sling to get her fresh air, only been out very briefly last two days as she’s very energetic. Is it okay to keep her in? I’m a FTM and feel guilty that I can’t do much atm. Finding being ill with a baby so hard

Yes of course it's ok to stay in if you are too unwell to go out! I hope you're feeling better soon! The main issue is that home gets boring and it's not fun to parent a bored, cranky baby when ill either.

What kind of low-key activities will your DD enjoy at home? My DS is a similar age and likes:

  • watching me cooking and doing household tasks
  • pulling his books off the bookshelf and chewing them
  • looking at me in the mirror while I sing silly songs
  • eating
  • playing with one or two favourite toys while I lie on the floor next to him
  • looking at a book with me
  • looking at cars/buses going past in the street
  • playing with things he thinks are for me and DH like a pack of tissues or a water bottle
  • rolling around on a tickly blanket

I find it hard to keep him occupied all day, but a rotation of these kinds of activities keep him relatively engaged

Thank you!

That’s the thing she is hard to keep entertained all day and she gets so bored easily it’s easier for me to take her out but I’m feeling so rough and it’s raining!

I’ll do a rotation and a couple of the things you’ve suggested :)

Of course you can keep her in, do literally whatever you need to to get through. Look up Hey Bear and Miss Rachel on YouTube and let her watch as long as she’s willing. Don’t feel guilty at all, it’s a couple of days out of her whole life. Hope you feel better soon?
