Baby weaning and constipation

Hi everyone,

If anyone has any advice or suggestions, I’m keen to hear them please!!

My baby is 7 months old and is loving his food. We started weaning him 7 weeks ago. He’s always been quite high needs and constantly wanting attention and cuddles which is lovely but demanding! Since weaning (and maybe a bit before but I’m struggling to put my finger on the exact time), he started getting so so whingey and whiny. He has always been a sicky baby and has been on omeprazole for reflux for a while. But since weaning he has really struggled with his tummy - we have been on lactulose and now trying Laxido. He poos about 4 times a day (and often quite a lot!!) but strains so hard that he’s sick most of the time! And sometimes out of his little nose to poor thing.

I jusy wondered if anyone else had experienced the same thing even 7 weeks down the line? We do prunes, pears, avoid bananas and things that bung him up, he drinks water - I just don’t know if that’s what is making him whinge all day or if it’s something else! He just seems so bothered by things at the moment and it’s hard to tell if it’s teeth, tummy, developmental….

Thanks to anyone who has read this far!!

How much food is he having? Is he getting enough water?

Reflux and constipation can be a sign of allergies.

@upfucked thanks for replying 😊 he typically has porridge and fruit purée or just fruit purée for breakfast and then some veg purée for dinner - sometimes with finger food veggies too or some cheese.

We tried to measure his water before - he’s taking a good few sips with every meal (about 10-20ml) and then I breastfeed him about 4-6 times during the day too.

I was wondering about allergies but not sure the best route to go down. Other than reflux, he was never particularly unhappy before weaning but now seems unhappy or frustrated!

my 20 month old had this from about 7/8 months. we’re now under paeds referral for bowel services and she’s having to take 8 movicol a day and other meds because everytime she poos she bleeds and screams, it’s awful. i suspect it’s because she doesn’t drink enough (can’t get her off the boob still) but seems impossible to get water etc down her properly

i was told the movicol is basically to make her poo loose so it doesn’t hurt and she doesn’t have to strain and then hopefully she won’t panic when it happens, but so far she still is getting upset when she poos. my bosses granddaughter had the same and is still having problems at age 3 😭
