My ds almost 4 is struggling a bit. He has attended the same nursery part time since 5 months.
He has always been described as emotional. The littlest things are the end of the world - he gets very flustered and teary with things that don't go right first time, like taking off socks, doing a puzzle, building a tower etc. I'm wondering whether he is just an anxious person like me, or whether there is something more along the lines of ADD? Nursery has agreed to look into it, but his key worker (whose own son the same age is under investigation) says she feels that he's just emotional.
My concerns, alongside the above emotional issues, are an excess of energy, jumping off things, not paying attention or responding often (2x hearing tests and speech are fine), maybe sensory seeking (he pulls my hair out still for comfort and says he doesnt know why...). But many of the things I spot are also typical energetic toddler behaviour!
He has no typical asd behaviours I don't think, no stims, although he is shy with newish people. He's very bright, affectionate, imaginative play, chatty etc. I know nhs waiting lists are immense right now and he doesn't have any severe issues, but even if he's 'just emotional' I'd like to help him get some coping strategies in place before school. Has anyone had a son like mine?
