Why are you reluctant?

Beanbagtrap · 10/12/2022 20:39

I think we waited until they weren't in a cot anymore so the teddies wouldn't get squished against them, they'd just fall out of the bed, so 14-16 months

Not sure on teddies as my DS isn't fussed by them, but once he hit 1 he wouldn't go to sleep without his favourite muslin blanket, which before 1 year I was quite strict on him not having at Nighttime due to risk of SIDS. The first few nights I worried about him having it, but it's been a year now and it's been absolutely fine.

DS1 got a Teddy from Santa when he was three, fell in love with it instantly and has slept with it ever since. He's six now.

DS2 is three and will occasionally fall asleep cuddling one of his soft toys but he hasn't found "the one" yet! He did have a liking for one belonging to DS1 for a while but DS1 has now demanded it back!

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz SIDS! A lot of advice says not until 1 or even 2 years old etc.

Do they cling onto it? Can you remove it once asleep?

The NHS guidance on safe sleeping re SIDS doesn't even mention teddies.

I waited til he took to one himself. He had a basket of soft toys and around about 8 months or so started to carry one about with him a lot. That was about the same time he went into his own room and a cot bed so we added the teddy to his bedtime routine.
