Dressing baby in winter- help!

First time mum, looking for advice on best type of mittens/ hats/ snowsuit/ coat etc for 14 month old...went out this eve and his hands were just freezing. Regular gloves not enough. I know I can search online and read reviews but real tried and tested experiences are better as always, coming from other mums. I'm talking about 0 and below 0 weather. Sheepskin mittens? Wool? Merino/ alpaca? Any good mittens on string recommendations that keep little hands warm? Warm but functional snowsuit for a beginner walker to toddle in? I am just lost and don't want to waste money but want to get quality gear for winter! Sorry not sure which thread to post in. OH AND Shoes! Any warm shoe recommendations that will also be comfy to walk in... all appreciated

My 13 month old won't wear mittens as he pulls them off all the time. We have a snow suit from Morrisons (Nutmeg) which he wears over his normal 2 layers of tops and trousers. He has some walking shoes from Clark's and he wears a pair of thick socks underneath them. That with a hat and it seems to have done the trick today!

We were out today with my 11 month old and he had on:
Nappy and long sleeve vest
Cotton socks
Cotton dungarees
Then in fleece lined snowsuit (sort of splashproof material on the outside)..
..Hands fold over to cover but I had some mittens in my bag
Bobble hat with ear flaps
In pram which has fleecy pram liner, also splashproof type material.

He was toasty 😁
I think it's about layers but also that the outer layers have some windproof quality.
Once he can walk I'll have him in some leather (or fake leather) boots, maybe with sports socks (sort of towelling) instead of standard cotton socks
