Eye contact gone?!

Hi everyone

on the back of my prev post

My 6 week old has had great eye contact pretty much since birth but since reaching 6 weeks old a few days ago, she’s stopped!!! Anyone else been through this? So worried. Should I contact a healthcare professional? I have been having anxiety since I’ve had her which I will also seek help for but I’m def not imagining this with the eye contact

Her head control also isn’t great and she will still always lay with her head to either side, never on the back of her head…

I don't remember the exact age about at some point our baby suddenly became interested in seeing the room as well as parents. Eye contact increased significantly as she got older but took a few months

Do you have a post natal check soon or clinic to have her weighed? There should be some health professionals there.

Agree with previous poster, get it checked. I shared my experience to reassure but anything you feel is not right, you should follow up with

This would be my take on it. As babies eye's develop they want to look at more.

@SophieIsHereToday hello, thank you. At that point, did your LO stop eye contact?

@Meltinthemiddle hello, I have the HV check in a couple of weeks. Not long had the GP one but didn’t have the concerns at that point

@lookersnoopy thank you, I suppose so. Just worries me since she always did it now she seems to avoid it

Just curious, what would health professionals do if the eye contact was low?

lookersnoopy · 08/12/2022 08:17

The eye contact you have been seeing is basically the extent of her vision, as it develops she can see further and naturally wants to look at her new world. I would mention it in your upcoming appointment, I'm not a medic, but I really wouldn't be concerned about this, it sounds completely normal.

Deegibx · 08/12/2022 08:22

@NameIsBryceQuinlan not sure but maybe they can tell me if it’s normal etc

@lookersnoopy thank you, I suppose that makes sense. Google doesn’t help lol

I think I mentioned it in our 6 week health check. The doctor said that there are other interesting things for her to see now. Im 90% sure it was during that doctors appointment we discussed it but certainly before 12 weeks.

Id still ask at your next been appointment. There are a few opportunities at that age and it doesn't hurt to get a second opinion

Deegibx · 08/12/2022 21:52

@SophieIsHereToday definitely will do hun
