Help me feed my 3 year old!!

My DD is 3, just. She was a great eater to start and then typically got fussy. She's now going through a phase where the only things I can guarantee she will eat are the following -

  • Steak pie
  • Olives
  • Hot dogs
  • Sandwiches with meat paste or tuna in
  • Toast
  • Some cereal
  • Pepperami
  • Grated cheese
  • Fruit occasionally

She drinks well, is a healthy weight, happy and very active but this isn't the diet I wanted for her. I'm hoping you guys can advise me of some meals or even tips and tricks to get her to eat properly?! I know this is probably just a phase but I'm fed up of cooking food and her refusing it and ending up with cereal or having an almighty meltdown over it.

I'd try and give her family food but with something you know she'll eat on the side.

So for instance if you are serving Cottage Pie, put half a slice of toast on the side.

The rule we had is that they don't have to try the food but they can't have it removed until everyone has finished eating.

If you ignore the protests and eat your food they sometimes relent and try the new food and if they don't, then at least they've eaten something they like.

The other rule we had was no substitutes. So if they don't eat, they eat at the next meal/snack time.

Pasta pesto with peas and broccoli.
Fish fingers with veg
Chicken, tomato and sweetcorn Quesadillas.

I bought an Annabel karmel weaning book and in there are some great easy recipes that my toddler enjoys. I started cooking from it again since I have a 1yr old.

Soup and toast fingers.
Omelette - add whatever to it. I grate cheese into the egg and chop up some ham and serve with slices of cucumber and Raw carrots.

Try putting a selection on her plate of stuff. We call it a picnic and he gets excited about that.
