Hiya.
Little one had a fever of up to 39.5 but comes down with calpol and nurofen and opening the windows in morning.

Went to gp yesterday and they don't even know what it is. Not hand foot and mouth. Not covid we done couple LFTs.

Anyone seen this before. Started Thursday.

Thank you

Looks and sounds very much like hand foot and mouth I think.

Fleur405 · 03/12/2022 09:09

Why are you sure it’s not HFM? My daughter just had this. She had a temp/was generally unwelll on the Saturday but the blisters didn’t start appearing until the Monday. First around mouth and then over the course of a few days they appeared on her hands and then feet.

Koala3d · 03/12/2022 09:09

Very red tongue with white bits could be a strep symptom . Worth checking as you will definitely need antibiotics for strep

Strep A. Strawberry tongue. Antibiotics needed, asap.

ChittyBang1987 · 03/12/2022 09:13

We're sure it's not HFM as the Dr confirmed it wasn't. No blisters or such on hands or feet. And nothing on face or around mouth. It's not the typical look for HFM. The Dr is paeds specialist too 🤷‍♀️

Mmm. Didn't think of strep....

Gums look quite swollen, could be primary herpetic gingivastomatitis, if so fluids and bed rest, as it's viral antibiotics won't help

KangarooKenny · 03/12/2022 09:30

Strawberry tongue - strep.
Is the child on antibiotics ?

Icannoteven · 03/12/2022 09:37

Another vote for primary herpetic gingivastomatitis here. It looks very similar.

It doesn't look like scarlet fever, hf&m or Kawasaki's to me - my kids have experienced all three of these.

babysharksb1tch · 03/12/2022 09:38

Strep A/ scarlet fever

tunthebloodyalarmoff · 03/12/2022 09:44

Could they be ulcers or thrush ?

Ostryga · 03/12/2022 09:50

Doesn’t look like scarlet fever - the tongue doesn’t usually present with blisters like that.

Have you got a walk in nearby? Sometimes it’s worth getting a second opinion on things like this.

ChittyBang1987 · 03/12/2022 12:56

Lo isn't on antibiotics.

herpetic gingivastomatitis looking at images online (good old goggle) I would say looking closest to it. She goes to nursery, and always has something in her mouth when i pick her up 🙄 which can be spread like that. I brush my Los teeth twice a day with the correct tooth paste and she seen dentist recently. Apparently it's spread with coldsores.... yes we're doing lots of water (refusing milk atm) some food I have managed to get her to eat. I have been sneaky and pretend it's my food then wants it 😆 🤣 difflam and bonjela seems to ease the pain.

It doesn't fit scarlet fever which main symptom of scarlet fever is a rash of small, raised spots which feels like sandpaper. You may have flu-like symptoms before the rash appears. She has no rash anywhere on her body. The white stuff on throat isn't peeling as per nhs symptoms to reveal the strawberry tongue. No flu like symptoms. Just drooling like mad and going through several pairs of clothes a day 😆 🤣 which her drool stinks. She's probably quite swollen on gums too as she has 2 teeth coming through too. Scarlet fever was one of things I questioned when we went GP yesterday.

Think we're see hiw we go, and on Monday speak to the dentist as I never saw her gum swollen until it was pointed out.

Be persistant op. Lots of nasty strep around at mo.

ChittyBang1987 · 08/12/2022 19:57

Update for those in future it was primary herpetic gingivastomatitis. We went to dentist who confirmed it. She's finally on mend, but still not eating 100 perecent and will not drink any milk.
