Hi Guys,
My son is 3.5 years old and is having a hard time adjusting to nursey despite being there for ~10 months. He actually loves going and has lots of friends, but he has had a few issues a long the way.
Initially it was his general behavior, he was often fine for the first couple of hours but as he tired he would get overwhelmed and often resort to biting and hitting his peers or even teachers (something he did at home too), although thankfully with time and the understanding that he hurts people that is significantly better, though does still happen rarely.
However, the main concern both us and the school have now is his inability to partake in any group activities. He physically cannot sit down calmly for any more than a few minutes before he is off running around again doing his own thing. With 'big' school fast approaching, we really need to help him learn to calm down and interact with a group.
He's always been highly energetic (more so than would be typical) and also has some speech delay, we've seen a pediatrician but its too early to diagnose ADHD and a speech therapist states that his speech is actually 'OK' and doesn't have any huge concerns.
Has anyone dealt with a hugely energetics toddler and had the same issues helping them focus? Open to any bright ideas anyone might have....
Thanks!
