When did you transition from sleeping bag to bedding?

My daughter is 16 months and sleeps fine in a gro bag in her cot. But it’s got really cold recently I’m wondering if I ought to transition her to proper bedding? Her hands are sometimes freezing when she gets up in the morning even though I have the heating set to come on around when she wakes. Would a duvet keep her warmer?

just wondering what everyone else does 😀TIA!

I swapped DC1 at 14 months and DC2 at 16 months. Timed deliberately to coincide with summer weather as IME it takes them a while to get the hang of it! So in your case, if she’s happy in her sleeping bag then I wouldn’t change now and would wait until spring. Cold hands are normal for babies, doesn’t mean she is cold and even if she is, you can get warmer bags.

We transitioned our son to a duvet just before he turned 2 (we done this as a lead up to moving him to a big boy bed as we have baby no 2 on the way and will need the cot). This was end of August so when it was still warm and he could get used to it without getting cold.

I agree with the above poster, If your daughter is happy in her gro bag I would say leave her for a while until you can transition in the warmer months. If she was too cold in the night she would wake up more frequently.

2.5yo… it’s been a year and he still kicks the duvet off in his sleep, we tuck him in several times a night (new baby keeps us awake).

Mine had fleece sleep suits (with feet) and duvets from 15 months when they went into a toddler bed, neither liked the cot.

We had this problem, got a large blanket and tucked it in to the sides of the mattress over the top of the duvet so she could still wriggle around with the duvet but it wouldn’t be kicked all the way off. Might be worth a try

As above, I deliberately waited until spring to make the switch. You will also be able to explain it to her and she will be excited to have big girl bedding! Do the cold hands bother her?

7Worfs · 30/11/2022 18:45

That’s a great idea @ShirleyPhallus we will give it a try!

Probably about 2ish. She always kicked the covers off so we used thick winter sleeping bags with arms which kept her warm. She still kicks the covers off and she's 3 now.

I had a similar issue, but I've switched to a sleep bag with arms. Our are from jojomaman - previously she'd wake up with cold hands. Now despite the fact her hands are out, they are always warm.

Age 2½years for ds. You get 3.5tog bags or you can increase clothing under the bag.
