Sudden fear of baby monitor

Not sure if anyone else has had something similar so thought I'd post to see

DS is 2 years 4 months and tonight he woke up and started screaming like he was terrified. We ran in and asked him what was wrong etc. he said 'off' and 'go away' to the baby monitor. (The one we have is on a post on the cot that then goes over his crib - CUBO AI if anyone's heard of it)

So immediately we removed the monitor and the stand as he would not go back to sleep or even in the cot until it had been removed.

We have absolutely no idea why! He's had the same monitor since birth, and we've explained to him what it does etc and showed him and it's just come out of nowhere

I was in our en suite at the time of him waking, and I could not hear anyone on the other end talking or any music coming from it. Also, it's encrypted so im pretty sure that can't happen anyway

Anyone have any ideas???

No idea but maybe a dream? I vividly remember being really young, probably between 6-8, and having a bad dream and ripping down and tearing up my giant busted poster that was on the wall next to my bed. I was too scared to go to sleep with them looking at me in case I dreamt the same dream again!

Hi there! I realise this post is a little old now but wondered if you ever got to the bottom of this?

Weirdly my daughter is exactly the same age of 2yr and 4 months and we’ve had the same thing tonight. Completely out of the blue she told me she doesn’t like it and to take it away as it has eyes. She knows what it does and has usually seemed comforted by the fact we are on the other end, so it seems bizarre! Wondering if it’s also dream related! Would be interested to know if it was just a random phase. Thank you

@Coconuticelolly has she ever seen footage of her room from the camera? Even the best cameras can make the room look a little bit creepy.

@Coconuticelolly hey there! No we never got to the end of it; we actually just removed it in the end. He's 3 now and no longer in a cot or has a stair gate so he comes to us if there's a problem

He still does get bad dreams though - he wakes up sometimes telling us about a man who's put his light on (it's not on) or there's birdies in his room 😂

Funnily enough we now have a 6m old baby too who uses the same monitor and it's in our room but he has no problem with it! He remembers it and knows what it does but doesn't seem scared of it anymore

So I have no idea I'm afraid! Hopefully just a phase. What monitor do you have?

Our has a light that blinks when we turn the monitor on. We taped it over and now doesn't bother DS anymore.
