Hi
Is codeine safe whilst breastfeeding?

I'm fairly sure hospital said it was a no-go, but doctor has just prescribed it and said its fine for BF?

I was once told by a fertility specialist (can't remember his title exactly) that it's ok in pregnancy, as long as you're not taking it too regularly just before baby arrives, so they're not born with a dependency, but that even if I was then just to let the hospital know so that baby can be monitored for a while after they arrive. I had some pretty serious pain at that point in my life though so I wouldn't expect everyone to be told that. I also don't know how that translates to bf as I think I've read something about it possibly surpressing a baby's breathing. If your GP has told you it's fine though then it's probably ok, these things often need a case by case assessment, not just a general "yes it's fine" or "no it isn't". TLDR; I don't know 🤣
