Bathing a 6+ month old baby

Possibly a dim question from a sleep-deprived first time mum... but how did you bath your baby after 6 months?

I've used a foam bath support (www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-baby-foam-bath-support/p3435645) in our bath since DS outgrew the sink, & it's worked well for us, but he is almost 6 months now & wants to sit up (although his balance isn't great yet).

Do I just support him myself or should I get a seat / some other kind of support? Do I need non-slip mat in the bottom of the bath?

Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

As soon as mine was able to sit up on her own (which she did around 6 months) I just let her sit in the tub on a non-stick mat. Quite shallow water. She was perfectly fine with that

Just used a non-slip mat. They soon sit up on their own, so didn’t want to buy more plastic crap!

As PP said I'd just do a really shallow bath and let them sit/lie in it.

Thanks everyone. I'll see how we get on with just a non-slip mat (that was my original plan but MIL said he needs a seat so I started questioning myself).

If we do switch to a seat I'll be looking for a secondhand one (for eco reasons) anyway.

We got a second hand one of these, although I quite often just get in with her myself haha!

We have something similar to this that we put on the floor of our bath and fill up. DS sits in it and plays - means he can have a decent water level without spending ££ and time filling a whole bath.

Bath within the bath like toriecat so that we used far less water. Then with 2 of them bathing together we did the bath seat to keep Ds2 at one end and Ds1 at the other.

We've got a smaller (1500mm) bath & only put a few inches of water in for DS so not really using a lot of water & I have nowhere to store a baby bath as the bathroom is pretty compact 🙂

We just used to put her on the floor in the shower and let her roll around etc while we showered, we’d then sit next to her and wash her hair etc. We found baby baths etc a faff so ditched them as soon as we could. We do have a very big sink and the taps move, so she was having sink baths every now and again until her first birthday.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 26/11/2022 22:31

Yep I just put a shallow amount of water & sat him on a non-slip mat. Easy peasy.

TokenGinger · 26/11/2022 22:41

We used a Shnuggle bath tub until he was around 12 months then upgraded to the toddler Shnuggle tub.

TokenGinger · 26/11/2022 22:42

We just keep the baby tub inside our main tub and take out when we're showering as our bathroom is compact too.

We don't have a bathtub so when we started weaning around 6 months and DC would be getting very messy post food, we used a bath seat in the shower and haven't looked back!
DC started standing under the shower at about 15 months.

A laundry basket in the big bath works really well once they can sit independently!

HiCandles · 26/11/2022 22:48

My 6 month old sits in the big bath with an adult hand supporting him at all times. He can sit unaided for up to 10 seconds but I don't test that out in the bath! Also lies out for a bit. Water level is up to tummy button when sitting and we pour water over him from a cup so it feels nice and warm.
