DS has recently turned 7 and it seems that this is the age where his peers have started venturing into video game land etc.
We are not ready for this...have witnessed too many friends with teen boys who have regretted it...game addiction, decline in academic performance, decline in behaviour etc. Sister is a headteacher and has also warned us against it...for as long as possible. Same with smart phones etc.
DS does lots of extracurricular stuff...cross country, park runs, swimming, musical instruments etc. We also value education hugely and encourage this at home. He still enjoys cartoons and we allow lots down time to relax and watch these.
He has never asked about video games but when I witness him interacting with kids his age and they start talking about video games, he obviously has no idea what they're on about and has to stay quiet. Whilst we are comfortable with our decision it's not a nice feeling that we could be affecting him socially in that way....
Surely we're not the only family out there parenting like this!?!?! Would be nice to hear from like-minded parents for solidarity.
