My 9 month old still isn’t crawling. She’s on her tummy, lifts her head and arms and legs move but just not getting into that crawling position. Should I be worried?

im a first time mum so getting anxious.

No....my dd crawled a week before her first birthday.

Saw this in active and it made me smile. Dd1 went from nothing to crawling to standing to tottery first steps in 2 weeks when she was 9 months. She's now star striker in her football team.

Her twin sister was much more linear so crawled earlier but walked later so I get the anxiety.

DC1 crawled at 7 months
DC2 was just shy of 11 months
DC3 army crawls and is just starting to get onto his knees now at almost 1 year ( although he was 6 weeks prem ) and is still very wobbly with sitting

Theyre all different!

BuffaloCauliflower · 25/11/2022 08:36

That’s still well within the normal curve for crawling. Make sure she gets plenty of floor time and isn’t in baby seats etc, get down with her and play to encourage movement and practicing using her body, but you’re a long way off needing to worry yet 🙂

ChessieDarling · 25/11/2022 08:36

Don’t worry about it, she’ll do it when she’s ready.

My earliest walker was like lugeforlife 's. She never really took to crawling - did it a few times over the course of a couple of weeks at 9 months but then took her first steps before she turned 10 months and was off, running and toddling everywhere within a few weeks.

Neither of my older two crawled much and both were walking competently outdoors before their first birthdays.

Only my youngest was an early crawler and a speedy ninja at both crawling and climbing - in fact he was almost gekko like in that he'd crawl at speed to a bookcase or stairs or a slide or a tree and basically crawl up it... He was doing that from 7 months old but he didn't walk til 14 months, much latwr than his siblings.

It's easier when they mostly skip crawling and jump to walking IME 🤣

PuttingDownRoots · 25/11/2022 08:49

Enjoy the last bit of them staying roughly where you put them.

DD1 learnt to crawl after she walked. She bumshuffled and cruised. Walked at 12.5 months.

DD2... crawled at 5 months. It wasn't fun. And walked at... 12.5 months.

Gronkle · 25/11/2022 08:49

My stepdd didn't crawl until over a year old, didn't walk till 15m, she then took off running and never stopped until she was about 11, lol. My ds crawled at 7m, walked at 11m. My dd barely ever crawled and walked at 8m. They're 23, 21 and 17 now, you really can't tell the difference.

About 50% of babies don't crawl at all according to my HV. They go straight from sitting / rolling to standing then waking. My friends baby didn't crawl or roll them suddenly stood at 11 months and started cruising along furniture and now at 15 month is running very fast!

Thank you all for your reassurance! Xx

Be thankful she isn't mobile yet

lilroo87 · 25/11/2022 09:15

I wouldn't worry, my DD didn't start crawling until around 10.5 months and then decided to walk about a month later. She never bothered rolling either really, until she crawled and then she rolled all the time.
I realised that she would just do it all in her own time and she did.

Don't wish it away, once they crawl and then walk everything gets more exciting haha

PoTayToes80 · 25/11/2022 09:50

My 9 month old isn’t crawling yet either and shows very little interest in it! I’ve not done a lot of tummy time with him because he’s always hated being on his tummy and still does. He’s much more interested in being stood up, so we figure he might just skip crawling.

He’s got a bit of a haphazard bum shuffle going on instead.

CurlyOrchid · 25/11/2022 10:53

Same here, nine month old DD has zero interest in moving and hates tummy time, she didn’t roll really until about a month ago either. She does all the motions of bum shuffling but doesn’t actually move anywhere. If we try to encourage her she actually picks up toys to extend her reach to get what she wants rather than trying to move for it!

AntsGoMarchingOneByOne · 25/11/2022 12:55

Mine started crawling at 10 months, walking at 18 months.
Every baby is different.

Goldenbunny · 28/06/2023 00:41

4 children so far 2 skipped crawling and went straight to walking.
One started crawling at 12 months.
