5 month old hates being in the car at night

Please help! My 5 month old boy absolutely hates being in the car seat at night! He screams and gets all sweaty and will not settle, spits his dummy out and I can’t always reach back to put it back in. He won’t even fall asleep, he just screams.
In the daytime he is absolutely fine being in the car, usually goes to sleep but if not just babbles away to himself quite happily!

Any tips on how to make him be more settled at night is appreciated! Especially now it’s darker earlier and we have a busy December ahead I’m dreading having to go out anywhere after dark 😢
hopefully it’s just a phase!

I have to put the light on in the back of the car for mine. You know, the little one on the roof?

@MissLC I have a three door car so there’s no light in the back unfortunately, I’ve put the front one on a few times but it doesn’t seem to help

I've seen some headrest mirrors that have a light on them?
My friends 9 month old is the same, and she thinks it's the fact it's dark

My DS was the same and unfortunately hasn’t changed at nearly 18months - hates being in the car anytime after 5pm! Even when it’s not dark. No idea why. 3pm-4:59pm - he’ll just have a danger nap. 5pm onwards- he’ll just scream. We have an older DS so sometimes can’t avoid later journeys (swimming lessons etc) so just have to sing to him, try and placate him with toys/snacks.
