Party - no shows! Is it just something we have to accept or have people lost all decency?

We had a party for DD last weekend...(all babies)...invites sent out approx 6-8 weeks in advance.

4 friends invited...
Friend A: Yes I'll be there (but then cancelled 2 days before as it was her older sisters birthday - yes, a fair excuse, but surely they knew that when I asked 6 weeks earlier and not last minute!)
Friend B: Yes, I'll be there (and came)
Friend C: Yes, I'll be there (spoke to me between the invite and party to confirm the date etc...just plain and simple didn't show and I've heard nothing since)
Friend D: Took weeks to reply to my message and said "we might be away that weekend, I'll confirm closer to the time", I messaged a week before to confirm - took until 2 days before to cancel!)

I see posts like this all the time on here...are people just so ignorant these days? Thankfully DD is too young to know, but I can't help but feel really disappointed for her. Surely it's not up to me to remind everyone? These people are adults and can surely organise themselves?

Anyway, rant over!
