Need some help with infant gaviscon dosage

My baby is 7, nearly 8 weeks and has cmpa and is suffering terribly with reflux ! She has gaviscon x1 sachet a day but I don't think it's helping, she's just had one in her last bottle and still has hiccups, regurgitating her milk and crying in pain it seems.

Am I allowed to put two in her next bottle ? I know they can have up to 6 a day but the instructions say it's 1 sachet to 4oz. She only takes 5oz anyway. Does that mean I'd need to make an 8oz bottle to mix the two sachets does anyone know ?
I don't really want to waste that much milk as it's the aptamil pepti 1 and the tins are tiny !

Which formula is she on? The first one prescribed isn’t dairy free, the protein is just broken down. It sounds like she needs to try another one. There is a brilliant CMPA group on Facebook. Ask for advice on there.

You can’t fix the gaviscon into less milk than is says on the packet.

packedlunchlife · 21/11/2022 18:53

@upfucked so it means I'll have to do 8oz if I want to give her two sachets then ?

And we're only on a trial atm. She doesn't seem much better on it though as her reflux is still bad, the rash is getting better though

Yes you need to mix 2 sachets with 8oz of milk. Is she only on 1 sachet a day or 1 sachet per feed?

packedlunchlife · 22/11/2022 06:06

@ForeverTired89 one sachet a day. I'm going to start giving her two a day and see if that makes a difference

@packedlunchlife as far as I know, gaviscon has no build up effect and only works for the feed which has a dose mixed into it. It makes the feed thicker and creates some sort of film on top of it in the stomach to make it more difficult to rise up the food pipe. So you need to use it with every feed. Or at least that's what I've been told by my baby's GP. Tbh gaviscon still didn't help us anyway.

packedlunchlife · 22/11/2022 07:50

@angrsaurus ahh I see. Thanks for the info.
I don't really want to be giving her the max dose of it... that to me says it isn't working surely.
What else can be done ?

@packedlunchlife we've been put on omeprazole which seems to help a bit. He doesn't have CMPA though, just reflux. He still brings milk up quite a bit but doesn't seem distressed anymore.
