Our 13 month old has always been pretty good with sleep, generally sleeping through from 4 months old unless ill or going through a growth spurt/teething.
He usually has 2 naps during the day, one at about 9.30 to 11 and an afternoon one from about 2pm until 3.30-4. From about 11 months old he’s gone from waking up at 6.30-7am and chatting to himself to waking up screaming at 5am and not going back to sleep, sometimes earlier.
we put this down to the 12 month sleep regression, then he started nursery (just 2 days a week) and of course he’s had loads of illnesses. He has a mild cold at the moment but other than that there’s nothing wrong with him, he is eating well again (originally he seemed to be waking up hungry as he hadn’t eaten much in the day so we would give him a little of his breakfast bottle).
hes settled into nursery well, never unhappy at drop off anymore, he’s been going for 7 weeks and he was upset on drop off for about 2 weeks. He’s eating enough in the day now - breakfast cereal, morning snack, lunch, afternoon snack and tea. We also now do banana and yoghurt at about 6 before bed and he also has milk at bedtime. We put him down at 7 and he has no trouble going off to sleep, he just wakes up and screams at 5am mostly, but also sometimes at 3am or 4am and is hard to settle back. At 5.30 he never goes back to sleep.
id say he has now been doing this most nights for about 2-3 months 😫 what are we doing wrong? Does he need to transition to one nap? Is he just still settling in to nursery even though he seems happy?
his naps have got shorter too when he has had an early wake up which we didn’t expect. Sometimes he will only get 1.5 hours daytime sleep and only 9-10 at night
he had terrible colic for the first 4 months of his life so we were so happy when he became a great sleeper. Feels like we have a newborn again though now and we’re not sure how to get out of this cycle of him not sleeping.
