Hello, has anyone changed their babies name shortly after registering them? Me and baby’s dad registered our little one the other day but now he wants to change the first name as he didn’t really like it but we were running out of time. Anyone know the process / done this? Thanks

You need to ask the Registrar for a Space 17 form- it costs £40 to do. The baby's name will stay the same at the top of the birth certificate, but will be appear as you want it at the bottom of the certificate and that will be the legal name used for all purposes. You might need to point it out when signing up to Doctors and schools etc as it isn't immediately obvious unless you're looking for it!

You could just use the name you want. You are always asked what name you prefer to go back for school etc. so not a problem.

@Ciecie1 hello! So I changed the birth certificate, I got them to post the form to me but they usually ask you to print it and send back to them. Was £40 and £11 for a new birth certificate. They can’t change the name at the top but they add the new name on section 17 at the bottom of the birth certificate. Pretty easy process but just annoying they can’t change the name at the top of the certificate x
