Hi. My baby is 6 months old and she squeaks all day. So loud that I almost go deaf for a short while. Is that normal?

Try baby oil

Sadly so! My little one used to SCREECH at the top of her lungs all day around that age. It's just a new sound they've found and want to try out... a lot. When they learn whispering it's bliss.

When did yours stop? I have a headache from all this

I know this isn't helpful but just picturing a 6 month old squeeking has cheered me right up 🥰 (and pp.is right, it does pass, you'll probably miss it!)

Aww, I forgot they do this! My first was particularly fond of it. It was hard at the time when I was so sleep deprived, it is so cute though! My DM brought me earplugs (a different generation "thanks Mum, but no thanks") 😮 maybe wearing one ear bud might be a safe compromise.

It's not cute! Babbling is cute and laughing and smiling but not this

Oh god I remember this, ds and dd both did it. I think they worked out how to make a noise, discovered that it also got a reaction, and that was just brilliant fun. For a few weeks it was horrendous, and so loud. Then they worked out how to make a different noise and the shrieking stopped. It will pass, and in the meantime try reacting to other noises and ignoring the shrieking.

From memory it was about 3 weeks? Then she learnt to blow raspberries and that was WAY more fun! It's so hard at the time though and it was all day and night and so freaking loud. I did as someone else mentioned and ignored some of the screeches in favour of being super over reactive to the other less ear piercing noises. At the time it felt like forever (similar to sleep regressions, teething, all the other fun bits..) but you blink and it's passed. I promise it doesn't last for too long!! In the meantime, if it's a happy little screech then always feel confident to take that time to make a cuppa in another room...
