Do some children just not really get into playing with toys?
I have an only child, just turned 6 and I have noticed that he hardly ever gets drawn into what I think is called "small world" type play.
I remember when I was a child I played with dolls until I was about 8 or 9- I'd spend hours making up stories and role plays for my Sindy dolls.
My son has only shown a passing interest in toys cars and he has a load of lovely Scleich animals that he never touches. Playmobil leaves him cold, Lego he enjoys following instructions to build the toy but once it's done he loses interest.
He also hates drawing and colouring.
He's a clever boy, reads really well and is brilliant at maths. He is articulate and sociable at school and full of energy- loves climbing, monkey bars, Ninja Warrior type stuff. He is good at board games and will often ask us to play them with him.
I'm not worried about him in any way, just curious whether for some kids the whole playing with toys thing just never happens?
(I should add that he has three cuddly creatures that he adores, so he's not completely anti-toy, but he doesn't play with them, just cuddles them at night).
