Hi,

I’m planning on taking DD (will be 8 weeks) to swimming lessons and I’m a little confused what she is supposed to wear..

swim nappy and happy nappy? Happy nappy as well as swim suit? Swimming costume or long sleeved/leg costume?

Help 🥲.

We put my daughter in a swim nappy, happy nappy and then one of those neoprene vests to keep her warm (turned out it was a heated pool so I ended up taking that off anyway)

The pool I take DS to is quite cold. They insist on a double nappy so he wears a disposable swim nappy and then a Happy Nappy swim nappy which is built into a little wetsuit type thing. Otherwise I would put him in a disposable swim nappy and then a reusable swim nappy for a warmer pool.

Our class also insists on a double nappy system too. We use a disposable nappy under a happy nappy that's built into a wetsuit.

When we first started swimming at 10 weeks I used a disposable nappy, happy nappy and then a 'Warm in One' fleece lined wet suit to keep DS warm. Have a look at the Splash About website as that's where we get our stuff from.

Disposable swim nappy with a happy nappy on top. We preferred for DD to have the wetsuit with built in happy nappy.

For DS, we did disposable, happy nappy and the velcro on swim vests for warmth.

Facebook marketplace and/or eBay will have loads of them as they grow so fast at that age that you barely use them before you need the next size up.

Also, I'd say there is no point in buying a swimming costume or the all-in-one swim suits until they can actually swim or you can 100% trust them not to poop in the pool! I've seen so many parents at swimming lessons trying to remove tummy bands and arm bands so they can pull the swimming costume down for their potty trained toddler to do a wee mid lesson. For DS we did rash vest and swim shorts (also available for girls too) so if he needed the toilet we could just pull down the shorts and not have to undo everything.

Just a little tip for the future! You don't think about it until you have a soaking toddler who is freezing cold and you're trying to wrestle off wet armbands and swimwear then get them back on again to finish their lesson 🤣🤣
