Aptamil pepti 1?

Hey guys - so i have an extremely cranky, unsettled just unhappy baby! He’s 5 weeks old and i have been told he’s got bad colic and sickens reflux. We have been on 3 different supermarket milks already and now been given the Pepti on prescription to try as GP is thinking cows milk allergy - he’s so unsettled after his feeds (worse in the night though) sometimes the screaming lasts for 7/8 hours. I am going out of my mind.
So just wanting to see if anyone has had any good positive results on this milk?? I have read lots of negative posts about it and i’m really praying this helps!

It all depends on if it is cmpa and how sensitive your baby is. If you see no improvement in a couple of weeks, go back and ask for an amino acid formula - neocate or sma alfamino. They will try and tell to to wait 6 weeks but screaming for 7 hours is not normal. Good luck x

What medication are you using for his reflux ? These formulas do make reflux worse because they are thinner so it’s important to find the right Reflux medication.

Pepti1 worked a charm for my eldest son, no issues at all . My youngest son is much more sensitive and didn’t get on with Pepti . He’s on Neocate .

@lawandgin Yeah i’m unsure myself if i think it even is an allergy!!

@ScoobyBooby he’s not on anything for reflux! he was on baby gaviscon a few weeks ago but it did nothing but make him sick!

@AmberM2022 there's no harm him being on prescription milk. So I would stick with it, just in case. How are his stools? How much is he sick? We've just been through all of this with our 6 month old and starting to come out the other side. It's not pleasant so you have my sympathies!

ScoobyBooby · 12/11/2022 08:31

Maybe try another reflux medication . omeprazole is a common one used if Gaviscon hasn’t helped . You can also use a thicker Carobel is often used or Magic Mix you can buy both of these over the counter /online

There’s also a group on Facebook for babies with CMPA which you might find helpful - search for CMPA support - it’s a private group

AmberM2022 · 12/11/2022 08:32

@lawandgin He actually never used to be sick at all (apart from when we put him on gaviscon) so they said it was silent reflux - but then we tried Kendamil organic last week - it was horrific he hated it and only had 3 bottles but since that he’s sick i would say every other feed!
Im at a loss as to what will help! I’ll stick with this milk for now as he doesn’t seem to be any worse anyway but he’s only had 6 bottles on it so far.
His stools have always been hit and miss - usually sloppy and only goes every 3/4 days, i can tell he’s desperate to poo he just can’t seem to. I do belly massage and cycle his legs everyday but nothing seems to help him. He does pass wind A LOT and they really really smell too. Sometimes he screams when he does it like he’s in pain?

It's a lot OP it's so hard to watch them suffering.

Just a thought, your LO is 5 weeks. Could it be the fact they've been on so many types of milk? You mention 4 or 5 kilos you've tried and he's only 5 weeks old. Perhaps all the swapping around is unsettling him? Not the cause as such but maybe it's making it worse?

Try and stick out the new milk for a couple of weeks. Reflux she colic is crap. It will pass I promise.

I would put money on him being constipated which is causing the reflux. That won't be the reason for the silent reflux though. But maybe if you get the actual reflux under control that might go too. You need some paediatric movicol - don't get lactulose because if he does have cmpa he could react to that. The doctors will tell you its not possible because it's medical grade lactose but my LG still reacted with horrific acid reflux!

ScoobyBooby · 12/11/2022 20:55

The smelly wind (does it smell like rotten
eggs / sulfur ) and constipation can be a reaction to the cows milk in the formula .

I agree the amount of milk changes will be upsetting his stomach too . I’d try your best to stick with the Pepti . X

We changed to aptamil pepti 1 after a very unsettled baby. She became unsettled at 2 wks and we tried the cow and gate comfort milk, gaviscon and omeprazole. Started aptamil pepti 1 at 5 weeks and she's now 16 wks and still on it. Honestly didn't know if it made a difference as you need to stay on the milk for 6 wks but we've remained as she didn't get worse and now she's definitely more settled.

She was sick and crying a lot but now the sickness is much better, hardly sick and much more settled.

If you are using pepti 1 and you suspect reflux then I would use a milk thickener
We use carabel and get it in prescription but I believe you can buy from boots

Happy to answer any questions

For info I don't believe my baby has a cow milk intolerance but obviously I'm not 💯
But unfortunately it can be time and trial and error which is awful when a baby is so unsettled

But they can grow out of it

My first had awful silent reflux and cried so much so I do emphasise x

Sicksmellymess · 19/11/2022 18:08

My 8 week old LB has just started this milk. We’ve had to wean him on to it mixing with his old formula. We struggled for ages with his constipation and it only slightly got better and got mucus and blood in it which made the doctor finally listen to our concerns over a CMPA allergy. He’s now constipated! He wont poo and he’s even more discomfort from it. It’s not even been a week yet

AmberM2022 · 20/11/2022 06:56

h@Sicksmellymess Hope it goes okay with your little one on it! My LB has been on it a week now and it has helped! he had bad eczema on his face and it cleared within 3 days! He is still very uncomfy and agitated all the time, constant screaming but i think it’s a problem with his bowels. His wind absolutely stinks horridly and is still going 4 days no poo and when it comes it’s not a proper ‘bowel movement’.
But i’m finding the milk so much better and i wasn’t sure at first so i would say stick with it! I have noticed lots and lots more sick from him but i think it’s because it’s so thin!

Hi!!

Looking for some advice please!!

My little girl is 6 week old and is really struggling with silent reflux/colic. It’s getting to the point where she wants her bottles but physically can’t do it when it comes to feeding her.

She has the following symptoms:

Distressed when feeding
Goes really red in the face and panicks when trying to pass wind
Runny poops (really runny, now on gaviscon it seems to have thickened but still not great)
Really congested
Gips when feeding
Swallowing after feeding
Hoarse
Hiccups
Rash on face
Coughing

Between 4-8 screams non stop see video or during a feed.

Any advice or anyone know what it could be? I’m at the doctors this morning so anything would be great to go with as I’m there every week at the minute! Could it be a potential intolerance??

She’s currently on gaviscon for the reflux. For the colic we’ve tried everything…advanced colic bottles, comfort formula, was on infacol but changed to dentinox as we thought infacol was making the acid worse.

I have just been prescribed Aptimal pepti 1.

strawberrysummer19 · 27/04/2023 20:51

We had this at 5 wks old - didn't move on to amino acid for 5 months as GP wouldn't allow us
The dietician couldn't believe we hadn't been offered it
So it didn't work for us but neocate did and that settled her but not until 5.5 months sadly
You do have to give the milk 6 wks to fully take effect
We noticed a difference at the end of week 5
She's 9months now and has outgrown her reflux

We also used milk thickener ( carobel ) as aptamil pepti 1 is so thin and makes her reflux so much worse ( didn't stay down ) can't remember the last time she was sick
