Is this sleep disruption down to learning to walk?!

DS is almost 16 months and very much on the cusp of walking. He’s always been a bad sleeper (wakes on average 2-3 times a night and only sleeps around 9hrs over night), but the last few days have been next level bad.

Last night he woke at 2am. He is BF and wouldn’t feed back to sleep (this is fairly normal) but would go to sleep being rocked. I would rock for 10-20 mins before I tried to put him down, but he would wake up immediately. Next option was to rock and then sit in the rocking chair…from around 6 months onwards he’s not slept well on me and would wake up after 10-20 mins, despite me continuing to rock in the chair. So last night I spent 5 hours rocking him on and off until I gave up at 7am.

Put him down for his nap and he fell asleep fine. Awake 25 mins later, exact same as last night and have had to give up after 1.5hrs of attempting to get him back to sleep.

He’s 2 stone and I’m only small myself, so all the rocking is killing me but otherwise he won’t sleep!!

Has anyone had similar while their LO was learning to walk?! How long did it last?? 😭

I think it's pretty normal for them so have a sleep regression just before a big leap, like walking.

I'd wait until he is walking then try a bit of gentle night weaning. It might also be worth reading the No Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers & Preschoolers whilst you wait Wink

@PritiPatelsMaker thank you, hopefully he will figure things out with walking soon and go back to waking 2-3 times 😂 I have been wondering about trying to night wean so will look into that, thanks x

Hi OP - did things get better? My DD is going through a bit of sleep disruption and early rising (5am, used to be 6.30-7). She is close to walking and also had her 1 year jabs last week, so not sure what if it’s one of those or a combination.
