Potty training - help!

Hoping for some advice please!

My son was 3 a few months ago and has recently started showing a lot of signs of being ready to potty train.

Over the weekend we had a whole weekend of no nappies, no accidents and doing perfect on the potty and toilet. Thought we'd cracked it. This week however he just absolutely refuses to go anywhere near either the toilet or the potty, will wet himself but he knows what he's doing as he'll go off and hide to do it.

I'm at a loss. I've had to put a nappy back on him today because I cannot keep up with the washing and drying with it being so cold. Do I persevere or give up and try again?

At over 3 I'd persevere, but add in two things.

  1. Rewards for going on the potty - don't bribe him (so no "if you go on the potty you can have a chocolate button") but give him a treat every time he manages it.
  1. Natural consequences for wetting himself. Not punishment. but every time he has an accident, you go "oh no, there's wee on the floor and on your clothes! Wee is supposed to go in the potty. We need to clean this up now." And then make him help you wipe the floor and put his clothes in the wash, then take him upstairs and put him in the bath or shower. Keep your tone bright and breezy, you don't want him to think he's in trouble, but you want the whole idea of him weeing in his pants to be associated with a whole bunch of boring chores.

Basically, positive association with potty, negative association with pissing on the floor.

Look at oh crap, it recommends no bottoms/pants for the first week/2 weeks...which means no clothes washing when there are accidents!
