I’ve two children ages 6 and 12 and a boyfriend. My boyfriend stays over a lot. I’m bloody sick of doing everything. Boyfriend sometimes helps to clear up but generally everything is down to me.

my question is would it be suitable for the kids to have a few chores? What kind of things to suggest? I’m not meaning loads just a couple of things before I end up having a break down

And should I ask my boyfriend to do a bit more? I say staying over but it’s pretty much 5 out of 7 nights a week

Definitely yes for both, kids should have age suitable chores, and tell your boyfriend that your house is not a hotel with a free housekeeping, and he has to do his bit.

Sounds like you have 3 kids.

Thankyou, can you suggest some things which would be suitable for the ages? I was thinking washing up for the 12 year old? Maybe 6 year old could feed the cat?

@Upsta I'd think 12 year old could wash up, hoover, sweep the floors, sort dirty/washed clothes (not on one day obviously), and 6 year old could feed pet, do cushions on the sofa, help with laundry, both of them could help with setting the table/clean it after dinner. That's on top of them tidying their rooms and picking up their toys etc. In general I think it's good to give kids some house chores as soon as possible, if you'll be doing everything on your own, they'll expect it from you when older too.

Your 12 year old can cook simple meals and your younger DC clear up. They can make their own beds, put clothes in the laundry basket, put away clean clothes. Your BF should be sharing the running of the house with you - laundry, cleaning, shopping, cooking etc
