Please could someone give me there opinion, I have to apply for primary school for my child by Jan 2023 and it’s causing me a lot of stress. The village school 1 mile down the road looks great but actually is CEVC so Christian and we are not Christian’s. I’ve actually worked at a CEVC primary before so I know they can be quite full on during collective worship and it makes me feel uncomfortable sending my child to one -but only because we are not religious. What are your views ? The next closest school is 2 miles away but is also CEVC the only non christian one is 5 miles from me so effectively do I even have a choice as wouldnt I be expected to choose my closest one?

You could always let your children hear the other point of view about religion and let them make up their own minds - assuming you are telling them your point of view. Generally they will listen to their parent’s opinions first and foremost.

Whether you have a real choice depends on how full the schools are round you. Your LA can give you the admissions data. It is normally on their website but you can also ring them up with specific questions.

Schools are all different. Start by looking round them and ask questions. I think their mission statements and the values they declare matter, as well as how that works in practice day to day. But ultimately primary age children absorb values and beliefs from their parents far more than school.

Why should she have to? Presumably religion will be taught as fact in these schools?
