4yo dreams ruining his sleep

Has anyone experienced this before? My son has just turned four and over the past few weeks he has started having what must be really vivid dreams. Talking in his sleep a lot, waking up in a weird half dream state and talking nonsense to me, sitting up and taking gibberish, lashing out in his sleep and calling for me but kicking and punching me when I go to him (he would never do this when he's awake), waking up 3-4 times a night atm and it's exhausting for both of us. His routine is really good. Goes to bed around 730 and wakes up between 6 and 630. Doesn't seem particularly anxious during the day and no big changes recently. Diet is good. Is this just a phase?

It's so hard isn't it. He's a bit better when he's in bed with me which I don't mind at all but it's really starting to have an effect on our daytime. Both knackered.

Have a look at the information online from the sleep charity. They also have a helpline 03303 530 541. There is a section on the website on childrens night terrors.
