Name change

Hi all, just looking for some advice.
I have a 2 year old son, me and his dad are separated and he lives with me.
His dad never has him overnight, and spends about 5/6 hours with him a week (always with family members, never alone with our son), doesn’t provide nappies/wipes or clothes etc I always have to pack them, barely pays maintenance (I’ve had £40 over the last 7 weeks), his birthday was almost 2 weeks ago and his dad hasn’t even given him a birthday present. Dad wanted me to sign our son up for some football sessions every Saturday morning, and has only turned up to one so far and has let him down every other time as he’s always too hungover to be able to get out of bed. My question is, what is the likelihood of me being able to change my sons surname to mine without his fathers consent as he’s refused? Thanks in advance!

Extremely unlikely if he is on the bc. My kids dad has no involvement what so ever and no maintenance and I was still told a court wouldn’t change the name.

Mine was changed without his permission and the court ordered it to be changed back. Very annoying for everyone.

If he's on the birth cert then not happening. However, you can change his 'known as' name to anything you like without permission so other than legal documents he'd be called what you want him to be.

Slightly off topic but why are you letting him get away with all the things you mentioned? Why provide nappies etc and not demand child support? Especially when he won’t give consent to name change.

Does anyone have any advice or guidance on wether it’s possible to change my sons surname from his fathers name, to a double barrel name with mine added in without his fathers consent?
