Fireworks and noise…18 month old?!

Plan to take our 18 month old to a school fireworks display later. I hadn’t even thought about the noise, but have today seen lots of friends/random mums/Facebook groups asking to borrow ear defenders for their babies/toddlers etc! Now I’m worried?! We don’t have any but I do have kids headphones we bought for a flight.
Is noise something I should be concerned about and taking precautions? It’s only one evening for about 30 minutes, but also…tinnitus?!
Any thoughts?

I'd try to get some of you can. It's pretty hard to prewarn a toddler that it's going to be noisy.

I took my 18 month old to a firework display yesterday and was fully prepared with newly-purchased ear defenders. They didn't stay on at all though, every time we put them on she kept pulling them off, so we gave up in the end. Yes it was loud but she was absolutely fine and didn't seem bothered by the noise! So I wouldn't worry too much tbh, if your baby is anything like mine they won't stay on anyway!

I wouldn’t worry. Ours woulg have been 6 months and then 18 months at the last two new year events. Didn’t seem bothered at all.
Saw some small scale fireworks recently at 2+ years and he just clapped and complained when they stopped that he wanted more

I think it depends on your child, you probably know whether they're sensitive to noise or not? My eldest is 4.5 and needed ear defenders for a small display in someone's garden recently, she's alsays been noise sensitive like that. She's only seen fireworks once before, in the summer, and she didn't have ear defenders and cried and didnt like them. Meanwhile, 1 yo was absolutely fine without them for 75 per cent of the fireworks but got a bit jumpy and so unsettled with the noisiest ones so I took him inside to skip those.

Thanks all. I don’t think she’ll keep anything on her ears anyway. She’s not fussed by noise, I’m more worried about the supposed damage to her hearing from the decibel range. But….did people worry about this 15 years ago- doubt it?
