Mysterious wet patch on mattress

So my 10 day old DS was just lying in bed with me playing about (he doesn’t sleep in bed with me). When I picked him up I noticed a wet patch the size of a small plate on the mattress. I checked his nappy and it was completely clean. His clothes aren’t wet either except for one small area. What is this? I was thinking it could be breast milk but I don’t think so now because it’s a bit lower down on the mattress where DS’s bum was. Weird!

You can a kind of leak where if a nappy isn't fitted properly when they wee it can kind of leak out in one area and then the mattress underneath can be wetter.

Other thing it could be is silent reflux where they spit up a whole load of clearish liquid. But if the patch was where your baby's bottom was then it's probably the first thing.

They can also get very wet patches from sweaty heads!

Hope your little one is ok and you both get some sleep xx

This is the start of years of mysterious wet patches. All around the house. Your home and clothes and actually body will never be 100% dry againGrin
Probably dribble

Not an answer....but when mine were little I used disposable bed pads under my sheet. Babies do end up in the bed for cuddles, early mornings etc and it saved the mattress from sick and unidentifiable stains...

Whenever my DC went through a growth spurt his head gets mighty sweaty for some reason.. Have you checked his temperture? is he eating well? fussing more than usual? good number of wet nappies?

Hello. My Ds was a very sweaty baby and used to leave sweat patches by his head and feet on occasions! It was confusing until I worked out where it was coming from!

randomsabreuse · 05/11/2022 07:06

We had a few of those moments with my 2nd. Boy things, everything needs to be positioned straight and held in place until the nappy is on!

KangarooKenny · 05/11/2022 07:12

This has reminded me that I always used to make sure my son’s penis was pointing down when I put a nappy on, due to these leaks.

theydontspeakforus · 05/11/2022 07:16

It will be a wee. Point the Willy down!!!

Welcome to the world of “why is this wet?” - prepare to ask the question a lot in the coming years!

Good suggestions above. I would recommend a good waterproof cover for your mattress, as he’s just proved that not sleeping in your bed in no way protects it from accidents!

Was his penis pointing to the side? If my son's nappy isn't tight enough and his is pointing to the side he literally will pee out of the nappy Blush

TrippyLily · 05/11/2022 07:32

Guaranteed his penis was sticking out of his nappy. My son used to do this every so often. The joy of boys!

Yep had the same with my 2 boys. Fun times.

OP I'd get into the habit now of never going into the bathroom without slippers on.
