When did your child get good with a straw cup?

I'm absolutely desperate desperate to give up breastfeeding. DD 9 months old. I hate it. Every second. Have been trying to formula feed since baby was 4 months old and she would take a bottle a bit but always give up and get annoyed after 1oz. My first was the same but by 9 months was really enjoying formula in a straw cup so all feeds moved to that and she started sleeping through! Hooray.
I try formula in a straw cup everyday but she just sips it a bit then pushes it away. I cry everyday. I wish I'd never started breastfeeding.

Is she pushing it away because she doesn't know how to suck from the straw (i.e frustration that she can't get the milk?) We used the 'pipette' method to help DD understand that she could get liquid through the straw. Dip the straw in some milk and put your finger over the top, then put other end of straw in baby's mouth and release your finger so the milk comes out. That way they learn that straw = milk.

You could also try an open cup? We introduced one at 6mo for water, don't see why it wouldn't work with formula, just might take a while to drink it all down.

Good luck!

Have you tried the puree trick? I got my 8mo to use a straw cup by putting a tiny bit of puree in the end of the straw, he then sucked and once he realised stuff was coming out he's been spot on at using it

What about a free flow cup instead?
