10mo not crawling is this normal?

10mo does move he pulls himself/does a front shuffle so he can get around!

But he doesn’t do standard crawling when he goes on all 4s one leg is stuck and he brings it round then he falls. He can stand with some help

i only ask because the health visitor is coming next week I’m so nervous

and DP’s nephew is 2 months younger (and has a cousin he sees every week who’s older and crawls, just for some context. DS doesn’t have any baby’s around that we see)
and he’s crawling

and I shouldn’t be annoyed about this but DP’s family constantly comparing them does annoy me and now this is something else for them to compare

Not all babies crawl. They can commando crawl, bum shuffle or cruise instead.

WeAllHaveWings · 30/10/2022 11:13

Ds never really crawled either he went from shuffling to cruising to waking.

Absolutely normal. Dd1 never crawled. She started bum shuffling at about 12/13 months then started walking just before she was 2.

Dd2 did crawl. Started at about 11 months then walked at 18 months.

Bless you. Firstly stop comparing and just ignore the comments or say 'thanks, that's helpful' in answer. They'll realise (hopefully) that the comments are altogether UNhelpful and may then stop. I have 3 dc. DC1 was very much like yours...crawled for 2 weeks at 11.5 months and then walked (ish) shortly afterwards. DC2 crawled at 7 months and walked at 9.5 months. DC 3 crawled at 8 months and walked at 11 months. After the first one, I realised that I should genuinely not have cared and laughed at comparisons, although that's really difficult when you're paranoid that your child is somehow 'lesser' for not being the first. xx

CheezePleeze · 30/10/2022 11:16

None of my 3 ever crawled, they were bum shufflers!

Honestly OP don't worry about it, your DC is still very young.

My DD Rolled over at 6 months.crawled at 14 months and now walking confidently at 16 months. she was still falling back a lot while sitting up at 1 years old. but once she crawled, it was all fine. All I did was to help her learn how to stand up holding a furniture at 13 months because I was worried when she wasn't moving. It took her very long to get confidence for crawling. I also kept her in walker everyday for 15-20 for her to learn how to take steps. It helps but I was always with her when i put her into walker. and now I think about all this and think that even if i had not do anything, she would still crawl/walk at her own pace.

DD1 never crawled. She went from sitting to pulling herself up on the sofa/furniture, then cruising along furniture to walking at 11 months. Didn’t really roll and never crawled.
DD2 is 6 months and just started doing what I’d call a plank! Wondering if she’ll be a crawler as she’s definitely a roller.
A few of my friends had babies the same time I had DD1 and I compared her to their babies often, I found it hard not to ask she was my first and I had no other comparison. But you know what they say about comparisons..🤪

In my baby group where all the babies are between 9 and 10.5 months only 4 are crawling of the 8. Only one is walking.

I will consider yourself lucky actually! Hard right now but they all crawl/walk in their own time (if they crawl at all, some just go straight to walking)

EdgarFrog · 31/10/2022 14:28

Mine didn't crawl in the traditional way until past 10 months. She did the commando crawl/body drag. She walks fine now at 14mo despite me worrying silly that something was wrong. My friends DS is still just bum shuffling at 17mo.
I know its hard not to compare (my friend DS that is only days older than my DD walked before she even crawled) but they all do things in their own way at their own time, try not to worry!!
