Chasing birds in a park?!

How frowned upon is this?
Running through a flock of pigeons id not get too worked up about, chasing and scaring a bird continually is different.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Unforgettablefire · 26/10/2022 11:03

I don't understand anyone letting their kids do this. It frightens the birds and kids should have it explained that it's cruel.

Soubriquet · 26/10/2022 11:04

I don’t like children chasing any birds

Birds are very sensitive and it doesn’t take much for it to have a heart attack

PAFMO · 26/10/2022 11:05

Would you let your child chase and frighten a cat? Dog? Other child?
If not, then you don't let them chase birds.

I think it's really cruel to the birds, and when they then do it on the beach the extra energy the birds expend really damages their chances of breeding success - which given numbers are already challenged by bird flu is upsetting.

I also absolutely hate, and have done my whole life, when the child chasing birds makes all the pigeons fly towards someone else's head. It's so unpleasant and inconsiderate.

Jijithecat · 26/10/2022 11:08

Very.
How would you feel if something 10 times your size was chasing you. It's only a game if both sides understand and consent.

Dacadactyl · 26/10/2022 11:11

I couldn't get worked up about birds tbh.

If my child ran at some birds I wouldn't give it a second thought.

CatJumperTwat · 26/10/2022 11:13

It's nasty and I would judge the parents, and the kids if old enough to know better.

mydogisthebest · 26/10/2022 11:14

I hate it when parents allow their child to run at/chase birds. I do sometimes say something.

Children should be taught to respect living creatures

tunthebloodyalarmoff · 26/10/2022 11:16

Children need to be taught kindness to animals. I hate it when I see kids tormenting birds they should be told

Damnautocorrect · 26/10/2022 11:17

It really upsets me to see and shows a lack of respect for nature and wildlife.
it’s not their for our amusement, and shouldn’t be scared into using up precious energy

Wintermoonandstars · 26/10/2022 11:17

I don’t see it as tormenting particularly but I do think it should be discouraged, as it isn’t particularly pleasant for people walking to have a flock of startled pigeons flying at their heads - speaking from experience here!

FindingMeno · 26/10/2022 11:20

I didn't let my dc's do it.
We're supposed to teach kindness and respect, right?

AngelDelightUK · 26/10/2022 11:20

It’s awful behaviour

If my dog was to do it then it would be frowned upon. Should be the same rule

Ihavekids · 26/10/2022 11:20

I chose another hill to die on.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 26/10/2022 11:22

I don't let my kids run at/through the birds at the park; it's cruel. They've now gone the other way, and take bags of seed and end up covered in them, like the woman from Home Alone Two while I cower half a mile away terrified of the flying rats.

TooShyShyShhh · 26/10/2022 11:23

I think it’s pretty horrible to let a child do it.
Living creatures have a tough enough time as it is without someone letting their child purposely scare them for a laugh.

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 26/10/2022 11:24

It's horrible.

justanothermanicmonday21 · 26/10/2022 11:26

Nope don't let my kids do it, also hate it when other kids do it and it sends the birds flying away in a panic near missing my head etc!

Caken · 26/10/2022 11:29

I’ve seen Final Destination, it’s a no from me!

Cherrytree77 · 26/10/2022 11:31

Nope - I dont let DD do it. I saw two kids chase a fox last week screaming and hollering, poor thing was terrified.

Wintermoonandstars · 26/10/2022 11:31

AlmostOver22 · 26/10/2022 11:32

Not something I can get worked up about

Kid chases pigeons. Pigeons fly up to where someone is lifting heavy glass with a machine. Causes the man to accidentally flick the drop level, kid becomes pavement soup under the glass

IHateWasps · 26/10/2022 11:34

I hate people who allow their kids to do this. It's cruel. I doubt that they'd find it so amusing if I chased their kid around for my entertainment.
