Baby constipation

FTM - Baby is 5 months, formula fed and I express a little bit of milk which he also has every day. He normally has a poo every 1-2 days (poo is always soft and runny has never been hard) but is straining most days so I spoke to GP who prescribed Lactulose 5ml at night.

GP also said to replace one feed a day with freshly squeezed orange juice with water and to add 30ml more water in every feed so basically he’s having 150ml feed at a time (5 scoops of feed and 150ml water) but to only add 4 scoops of feed and 150ml water so the feed will be diluted. We have tried that for a couple of days and he’s been having a poo for 2 days in a row but didn’t go this morning.

Any other suggestions? Baby was still straining this morning 😕

When my baby was constipated at 4 months I gave him small amounts of prune juice or purée.. usually did the trick for us

Hi, I'm not saying my baby is the same as yours but my son poos every 1-2 days and always does a little strain face before going. I've never considered him constipated. Is there anything else he's doing to make you think that? Is it a lot of straining? Xx
