Weaning off dummy?

Baby is 9.5 mo and we still give his dummy for naps and bed time - sometimes in the day if he’s ever inconsolable but as soon as he cheers up I take it back

Now please don’t be judgmental or tell me he’s too young. I’d ideally like him to not have one by the time he’s 1

Mainly because he has cousins who’ve had it past 1 and, 1 is 3 and won’t get rid of hers and has a underbite and speech issues. The other is starting to have teeth problems you can see and speech

So yes call me strict etc but I’ve been lazy and he’s had it longer than I thought

Anyone got tips about weaning baby off dummy at this age? As it’s hard he doesn’t understand so I can’t really go cold turkey unless I leave him to cry himself to sleep which I refuse to do
